Wow. Thank you, Patrick. In our common religious tradition, we seem to want a comfortable Jesus, one who looks traditionally European and teaches in refined 17th-century English. Seldom are we asked to make sense of his human struggles and of his suffering, but you have done so brilliantly.

There may be some who are offended by your comparison of George Floyd with Jesus. But it was Jesus himself who asked us to make such a comparison: "Truly I say to you, as you have done this to one of the least of my brothers or sisters, you have done it to me." (Mt 25:40, Wayment translation) We ignore the lessons of Floyd's death at our peril.
